Case Study: Manufacturing

Through a PDM-A/UNAMA Afghan First Conference several international buyers were connected with Afghan owned High Standard Pipe (HSP).  Subsequently, contracts were awarded to HSP by Prime Project International, the Aga Khan Foundation and UNICEF worth approximately US$ 412,000. This resulted in new staff hires for HSP, investments in new machinery and an ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for their management system.

Case Study: Construction

Eve Corporation is a female-owned and managed logistics and construction company operating out of Kabul.  Eighty percent of the workers are female, the majority of whom are former refugees who learned their trade while living in Pakistani refugee camps.  Thanks to PDM-A's Business Development team and Capacity Development services, the U.S. military awarded Eve Corp. a $109,000 contract to provide laundry and housekeeping services for the Afghan National Army Sergeant Majors Academy in April 2009.  The U.S. procurement officers are extremely pleased with Eve Corp.'s performance to date, and PDT is confident that the female-owned company will continue to win contracts well into the future.

Case Study: Construction

Milky Way Corporation is a local business that started as a trading company under the Taliban regime. PDT's business development service introduced Milky Way to the global firm CH2M Hill, which was looking for materials for a construction project. Thanks to this connection, Milky Way provided over US$140,000 worth in concrete barriers for the project and reinvested the profit to into building a new factory -- thus creating more jobs and further improving the Afghan economy.

Case Study: Manufacturing

Through PDT's business development service, the United States Military met Kabul Melli Trading, a factory with years of experience that had shut most production down during the civil war and Taliban regime. After visiting the factory, the US Military awarded Kabul Melli Trading a contract worth approximately US$900,000 to produce boots for the Afghan National Police.
